complete genome sequence of the first canine circovirus.we found a highly divergent circovirus in serum samples from several dogs. phylogenetic analysis indicates that canine circovirus genotype 1 (cacv-1) represents the first circovirus reported in dogs and is genetically most closely related to the only known mammalian circovirus, porcine circovirus. here we report the complete genome sequence of the cacv-1 strain ny214, which will help toward understanding the evolutionary and pathogenic characteristics of mammalian circoviruses.201222628401
role of canine circovirus in dogs with acute haemorrhagic diarrhoea.canine circovirus (caninecv) has been detected in some dogs with severe haemorrhagic diarrhoea, but its pathogenic role is unclear. this study evaluated a suspected association between the presence of caninecv and acute haemorrhagic diarrhoea syndrome (ahds) in dogs. the prevalence of caninecv in dogs with ahds was compared with that in healthy dogs and those infected with canine parvovirus (cpv). additionally, time to recovery and mortality rate were compared between caninecv-positive and canin ...201728242782
common and emerging infectious diseases in the animal shelter.the beneficial role that animal shelters play is unquestionable. an estimated 3 to 4 million animals are cared for or placed in homes each year, and most shelters promote public health and support responsible pet ownership. it is, nonetheless, inevitable that shelters are prime examples of anthropogenic biological instability: even well-run shelters often house transient, displaced, and mixed populations of animals. many of these animals have received minimal to no prior health care, and some ha ...201424265288
genetic changes and evolutionary analysis of canine circovirus.canine circovirus (caninecv) has been found to be associated with vasculitis, hemorrhage, hemorrhagic enteritis, and diarrhea of canines. caninecv, like other circoviruses, may also be associated with lymphoid depletion and immunosuppression. this circovirus has been detected worldwide in different countries and species. recombination and mutation events in the caninecv genome have been described, indicating that the virus is continuing to evolve. however, the origin, codon usage patterns, and h ...202134104994
ancient origin and genetic segregation of canine circovirus infecting arctic foxes (vulpes lagopus) in svalbard and red foxes (vulpes vulpes) in northern norway.canine circovirus (caninecv) is a relatively new viral species, belonging to the family circoviridae, whose pathogenic role is still uncertain. since its first description in one domestic dog in 2011 from the usa, several reports have been documenting its distribution worldwide. recently, caninecv was also detected in wild animals such as wolves, foxes and badgers. in order to investigate the presence and the genetic characteristics of caninecv in foxes of arctic and sub-arctic regions, the pres ...202032786111
characterization of dog serum virome from northeastern brazil.domestic dogs share habitats with human, a fact that makes them a potential source of zoonotic viruses. moreover, knowledge regarding possible bloodborne pathogens is important due to the increasing application of blood transfusion in dogs. in the present study, we evaluated the serum virome of 520 dogs using throughput sequencing (hts). the serum samples were pooled and sequenced using an illumina miseq platform. our unbiased method identified prevalent canine pathogens as canine protoparvoviru ...201830292963
genomic characterization of canine circovirus detected in red foxes (vulpes vulpes) from italy using a new real-time pcr assay.data on canine circovirus circulation among red foxes (vulpes vulpes) are limited. we report the detection of canine circovirus in a red fox from italy. the virus was closely related to strains from dogs (canis lupus familiaris) rather than those from foxes, suggesting a possible transmission between the two species.202031237820
a molecular survey for selected viral enteropathogens revealed a limited role of canine circovirus in the development of canine acute gastroenteritis.canine circovirus (caninecv) is a canine virus, whose pathogenetic role is still uncertain. based on recent data suggesting its role as entheropathogen, a case-control study was conducted between 2013 and 2016 to investigate the association of caninecv with gastroenteritis in dogs, alone or in combination with other viral pathogens, including canine parvovirus (cpv), canine coronavirus (ccov) and canine distemper virus (cdv). a total of 219 dogs suffering from acute gastroenteritis disorders and ...201728532806
canine circovirus 1 (cacv-1) and canine parvovirus 2 (cpv-2): recurrent dual infections in a papillon breeding colony.recurrent outbreaks of sudden death and bloody diarrhea were reported in march 2013 and february 2014 in a breeding colony of papillon dogs. during the first outbreak, 1 adult dog and 2 eight-month-old puppies died. during the second outbreak, 2 ten-week-old puppies died. one puppy from the first outbreak and 2 puppies from the second outbreak were examined at necropsy. histologically, all 3 puppies had severe segmental crypt necrosis of the small intestine and marked lymphoid follicle depletion ...201627154544
first molecular detection of porcine circovirus type 3 in dogs in china.porcine circovirus type 3 (pcv3) has recently been isolated from diseased pigs within the usa. the objective was to detect the presence of pcv3 in dogs. nested polymerase chain reactions (pcr) with pcv3-specific primers for the capsid gene were used to detect pcv3 genomic dna in serum samples from dogs (n = 44) in china. there was pcv3 dna detected in 4 of 44 dogs [all were negative for pcv2 and canine circovirus (caninecv)]. based on sequence analysis, positive sequences were grouped into pcv3 ...201728983774
