space-time patterns of campylobacter spp. colonization in broiler flocks, 2002-2006.this study was performed to investigate space-time patterns of campylobacter spp. colonization in broiler flocks in norway. data on the campylobacter spp. status at the time of slaughter of 16 054 broiler flocks from 580 farms between 2002 and 2006 was included in the study. spatial relative risk maps together with maps of space-time clustering were generated, the latter by using spatial scan statistics. these maps identified the same areas almost every year where there was a higher risk for a b ...201020109260
chromosome aberrations and dna strand breaks in glaucous gull (larus hyperboreus) chicks fed environmentally contaminated gull eggs.in this present laboratory study, our results suggest that a complex mixture of pollutants found in the marine environment exerts genotoxic effects on glaucous gull (larus hyperboreus) chicks fed environmentally contaminated gull eggs. chromosome aberrations, quantified by cytogenetic analysis of blood cells, and dna strand breaks, quantified by agarose gel electrophoresis and image data analysis, were determined in glaucous gull chicks fed environmentally contaminated gull eggs (exposed group) ...200616291568
antimicrobial resistance in campylobacter jejuni from humans and broilers in norway.in this study comprising isolates from 2001 to 2003, resistance was considerably more widespread among campylobacter jejuni from humans infected abroad than infected within norway. the discrepancy was particularly notable for fluoroquinolone resistance (67.4% vs. 6.5%). this is probably a reflection of a low resistance prevalence in norwegian broiler isolates (1.2% fluoroquinolone resistant).200616409659
attitudes towards meat and meat-eating among adolescents in norway: a qualitative study.the aim of this study was to explore the concept of disgust in relation to meat and meat-eating. a sample of 30 high school students (aged 16 to 17 years), 10 urban females, 10 rural females, and 10 rural males, participated in the study. the participants' attitudes towards meat and meat-eating were investigated through interviews of a semi-structured nature and a short, confidential questionnaire. the study showed that disgust was solely related to red meat varieties and not to chicken. there w ...200211883918
characterization of avipoxviruses from wild birds in norway.avipoxviruses from different geographic regions of the world have been characterized to study their genetic and biological properties, but so far, no such work has been performed on norwegian isolates. lesions suggestive of avian pox, found on a norwegian wild sparrow (passer domesticus) and wood pigeon (palumbus palumbus), were obtained in 1972 and 1996, respectively. histologically, these lesions were demonstrated to be characteristic of poxvirus infections and the poxvirus was observed using ...200415188959
risk factors for marek's disease and mortality in white leghorns in norway.a prospective longitudinal field study was conducted in the period from january 1994 to january 1996 to analyse the relationship between some selected risk factors in the growing and laying periods and (1) the flock-level occurrence of marek's disease (md) during the period from 16 to 32 weeks of age and (2) the cumulative mortality during the same period. a total of 171 layer flocks in 102 egg-production farms were included in the statistical analyses.a logistic regression (with strain of layer ...200010760399
