influenza a h1n1 virus in indian pigs & its genetic relatedness with pandemic human influenza a 2009 h1n1.with the emergence of a new reassortant influenza a h1n1 virus that caused the 2009 pandemic it was felt necessary that pigs should be closely monitored for early detection of any influenza virus infection. therefore, we investigated disease outbreaks with clinical history suggestive for swine influenza reported to our laboratory by owners of affected pig farms in uttar pradesh.201020716816
sero-epidemiology of q-fever in poultry.the sero-epidemiology of q-fever was studied by capillary agglutination test at 25 poultry farms in the nainital and ajmer districts of uttar pradesh and rajasthan. of 589 birds tested, 78 (13.24%) had q-fever agglutinins (cat titers 1:8 to 1:64), involving 16 of the farms. there were more sero-reactors in ajmer (17.56%) than in nainital (3.35%). the sero-positive reactors were respectively 19.74% and 5.55% among the age groups above and below 6 months. the breed difference and comparatively hig ...1978646757
isolation, identification and characterization of a peste des petits ruminants virus from an outbreak in nanakpur, india.a peste des petits ruminants virus (pprv) was isolated from an outbreak that occurred in sheep and goats in nanakpur village of mathura district in uttar pradesh (india). based on hemagglutination of chicken red blood cells (rbcs), cytopathic effect similar to that caused by the morbilliviruses in vero cells, and amplification and sequence analysis of the viral nucleoprotein (n) gene, the identity of the virus was confirmed as pprv and named pprv/c. hircus-tc/india/2012/nanakpur1 (in short pprv/ ...201323500799
environmental issue of exotic catfish culture in uttar pradesh.a survey was conducted in uttar pradesh to enlist the available exotic fish species in culture. the culture and feeding details of unofficially introduced clarias gariepinus was collected from 419 ponds existing in rural areas of 23 districts of uttar pradesh. the data indicated that 32% ponds were culturing exotic fishes of which 79% cases are of monoculture of exotic african catfish. feeding analysis of these exotic african catfish revealed that 7% cases subsist on natural pond feed while 29% ...200112017262
influence of environmental factors on underfive morbidity.the effects of environmental factors in the morbidity pattern of 893 children under 5 years of age living in the urban, urban slum, and rural areas of varanasi are investigated. 273 children belonged to an urban area, 284 to urban slum area, and 336 to a rural area. all 3 areas have general outpatient services as well as underfive clinics. data on childrearing practices, anthropometric measurements, and morbidity are recorded in the health cards of the children. various illnesses observed in ...19817309216
organochlorine pesticide residues in some indian wild birds.residues of bhc and ddt were estimated by gas-liquid chromatographic analysis of the internal body organs, depot fat, and blood plasma of a few species of indian wild birds, captured in and around the urban area of lucknow. total bhc and gamma-bhc (lindane) levels were high in breast muscle, liver, heart, and lung tissues of pigeon, crow, and vulture, compared with the respective tissues of chicken, cattle egret, and kite. more lindane and total bhc was found in tissues of vulture compared with ...19817279596
ddt and bhc residues in some body tissues of goats, buffalo, and chickens, lucknow, india.muscle, liver, brain, and abdominal body fat samples of goats, buffalo, and chickens, all common meat sources in india, were analyzed by gas-liquid chromatography (glc) for residues of ddt and benzene hexachloride (bhc). a few samples of goat and buffalo bone marrow were also included. relatively high residue levels were found in body fat and bone marrow compared with other tissues. ddt and bhc residue levels were highest in chicken body fat, averaging 4.157 ppm sigma ddt and 3.879 ppm bhc. ddt ...19816171768
an outbreak of fowl cholera due to pasteurella gallinarum in uttar pradesh (india).an acute outbreak of fowl cholera in one-month-old chickens was investigated. pasteurella gallinarum was isolated in pure culture from the heart blood of two moribund chicks. one of the isolants on experimental inoculation was found to be nonpathogenic for rabbits, mice, and chickens. it did not provide protection in rabbits against a virulent strain of p. multocida. this seems to be the first record of the isolation of p. gallinarum in india.1977869829
isolation and pathotyping of h9n2 avian influenza viruses in indian poultry.a total of 1246 faecal and tissue samples collected/received from 119 farms located in various states of india were processed for isolation of avian influenza viruses (aiv) during 2003-2004 as part of a program to monitor aiv infection in indian poultry population. avian influenza virus was isolated for the first time in india from poultry farms with history of drop in egg production, respiratory illness and increased mortality in haryana state. a total of 29 h9n2 aiv isolates were obtained from ...200918676100
multiple introductions of a reassortant h5n1 avian influenza virus of clade 2.3.2.1c with pb2 gene of h9n2 subtype into indian poultry.highly pathogenic avian influenza (hpai) h5n1 viruses are a threat to poultry in asia, europe, africa and north america. here, we report isolation and characterization of h5n1 viruses isolated from ducks and turkeys in kerala, chandigarh and uttar pradesh, india between november 2014 and march 2015. genetic and phylogenetic analyses of haemagglutinin gene identified that the virus belonged to a new clade 2.3.2.1c which has not been detected earlier in indian poultry. the virus possessed molecula ...201627174088
