a note concerning occurrence and mortality of gram-negative bacillary pneumonias at detroit receiving hospital, 1963-1968. 19714943331
Pneumonia in the surgical intensive care unit: is every one preventable?Pneumonia is a major complication for hospitalized patients and has come under the scrutiny of health care regulating bodies, which propose that hospital-acquired pneumonia should not be reimbursed and potentially be a "never event." We hypothesized that many of our acutely injured patients develop pneumonia at the time of their initial traumatic event despite aggressive measures to prevent pneumonia during hospitalization.201122000178
predictors for haemophilus influenzae colonization, antibiotic resistance and for sharing an identical isolate among children attending 16 licensed day-care centers in michigan.nontypable haemophilus influenzae is an important cause of otitis media in children. children attending day-care centers are at an increased risk for nontypable h. influenzae colonization and otitis media. we describe the prevalence of nontypable h. influenzae colonization, antibiotic resistance and predictors for colonization and sharing an identical isolate with at least 1 other child in the same day-care centers among children attending 16 day-care centers.200616511383
identification of new genetic regions more prevalent in nontypeable haemophilus influenzae otitis media strains than in throat strains.nontypeable (nt) haemophilus influenzae strains cause significant respiratory illness and are isolated from up to half of middle ear aspirates from children with acute otitis media. previous studies have identified two genes, lic2b and hmwa, that are associated with nt h. influenzae strains isolated from the middle ears of children with otitis media but that are not associated with nt h. influenzae strains isolated from the throats of healthy children, suggesting that they may play a role in vir ...200617005745
factors associated with underimmunization at 3 months of age in four medically underserved areas.risk factors for underimmunization at 3 months of age are not well described. this study examines coverage rates and factors associated with under-immunization at 3 months of age in four medically underserved areas.200415313111
diversity and sharing of haemophilus influenzae strains colonizing healthy children attending day-care centers.children attending day-care centers (dccs) are at risk for haemophilus influenzae nasopharyngeal colonization and acute otitis media. the degree to which a given strain circulates within a day-care center and the heterogeneity of strains among dccs in a geographic area are not well-characterized. this study describes the prevalence rates of h. influenzae colonization in a large number of children attending day-care centers and examines the genetic diversity of colonizing strains and the degree o ...200414743045
children who have received no vaccines: who are they and where do they live?each year 2.1 million children 19 to 35 months of age are undervaccinated. among these are children who have received no vaccinations. unvaccinated children are at increased risk of acquiring and transmitting vaccine-preventable diseases.200415231927

six areas lead national early immunization drive.on june 13, 1991, president george bush announced in a white house ceremony a local planning effort to break down barriers and provide better access to immunization in six representative localities "to solve the problem of late immunization." (children need to be immunized appropriately by their second birthday, not just in time for school.). the community "immunization action plans" (iap) are one of several federal, state, and local responses to an outbreak of measles that produced 27,600 cases ...19921594733

the tecumseh study of respiratory illness. viii. acute infection in chronic respiratory disease and comparison groups.individuals with chronic lung disease and their families were selected from the tecumsch community along with similarly selected families as comparison groups and studied for 1-year periods. occurence of acute respiratory illness was ascertained weekly by telephone and calculated as an annual rate. persons with chronic bronchitis not only experienced more acute lower respiratory illness than healthy comparison subjects, but total illness rates were somewhat higher as well. infection rates were d ...1975163065
