CNS infections caused by Mycobacterium abscessus complex: clinical features and antimicrobial susceptibilities of isolates. Objectives CNS infections caused by non-tuberculous mycobacteria (NTM) are rare and only three cases of CNS infections due to Mycobacterium abscessus complex have been reported. Methods We searched the Mycobacteriology Database of the National Taiwan University Hospital and identified patients with CNS infections due to NTM. Results A total of 15 patients, namely 4 HIV-seropositive patients and 11 HIV-seronegative patients, with CNS infections caused by NTM were identified during 2000-10. All ...201221980068
emergence of disseminated infections due to nontuberculous mycobacteria in non-hiv-infected patients, including immunocompetent and immunocompromised patients in a university hospital in taiwan.although disseminated nontuberculous mycobacteria (ntm) infection has been increasingly reported in patients with aids, this condition is still considered rare in non-hiv-infected patients.200616313964
isolation of non-tuberculous mycobacteria from hospital cockroaches (periplaneta americana).this study attempted to isolate mycobacteria from hospital and household cockroaches from 90 hospitals and 40 households in kaohsiung city and kaohsiung county, south taiwan. among 203 cockroaches (139 periplaneta americana and 64 blattella germanica) collected from the hospitals, six mycobacterium spp. were isolated and identified by polymerase chain reaction-restriction fragment length polymorphism analysis. in 12 cockroaches (p. americana): four mycobacterium kansaii, three mycobacterium xeno ...200312623325
comparison of the bactec mgit 960 with löwenstein-jensen medium for recovery of mycobacteria from clinical specimens.taiwan provincial chronic disease control bureau.200010985656
mycobacterial bacteraemia in patients infected and not infected with human immunodeficiency virus, taiwan.the clinical characteristics and outcomes of 71 patients with mycobacterial bacteraemia, infected with human immunodeficiency virus (hiv) (n = 47) and not infected with hiv (n = 24) are described. mycobacterium avium complex (mac) (54.9%) constituted the most frequently isolated mycobacterium, followed by mycobacterium tuberculosis (mtb) (38.0%), mycobacterium kansasii (4.2%), and mycobacterium abscessus (2.8%). the beijing family genotype was the most common type in mtb, and mycobacterium intra ...201019709128
clinical manifestations, antibiotic susceptibility and molecular analysis of mycobacterium kansasii isolates from a university hospital in taiwan.mycobacterium kansasii causes a variety of infections. although previous reports on the prognosis of antimicrobial therapy have been mostly satisfactory, problems involving treatment failure or relapse have been encountered. the purpose of this study was to establish a relationship between the clinical treatment outcomes of m. kansasii infections and bacterial drug susceptibility, and their clonality.200919584102
