enteric pathogens in infants and children in shiraz, iran: a study of their incidences and infectious drug resistance.gastroenteritis is a serious problem among young children in shiraz iran and often requires antibiotic therapy as it is commonly superimposed on other debilitating clinical conditions. stool specimens from over four hundred cases of gastroenteritis among children up to six years of age were examined for the presence of bacterial pathogens and the pattern of drug sensitivity for each pathogenic genus was determined. the presence of infectious drug resistance factors among these isolates was also ...1977329190

distribution of group e colicin types in shiraz, iran.seventy-six (7.5%) of 1007 clinical isolates of escherichia coli, shigella and salmonella from patients in saadi hospital, shiraz, iran, produced colicins of group e. the majority of isolates produced colicin e1 and none produced colicins e2 or e3. this is the first report of the production of colicin e4 horak by strains of salmonella and of colicins e5 and e6 by strains other than shigella sonnei, and only the second report of the isolation of any strain producing colicin e7.19817040603

production of colicin e5 by epidemic strains of salmonella typhimurium var. copenhagen.sixty eight strains of salmonella typhimurium were isolated during an outbreak of salmonellosis in the paediatric ward of saadi hospital in shiraz, iran. eleven of the strains were shown to produce a single type of colicin of group e. this colicin was identified as colicin e5. most of the colicinogenic strains exhibited similar drug sensitivity and phage typing patterns and all were of the serotype s. typhimurium var. copenhagen.19863526095
