shv-13, a novel extended-spectrum beta-lactamase, in klebsiella pneumoniae isolates from patients in an intensive care unit in amsterdam.eleven clonally related klebsiella pneumoniae isolates were examined. these had been isolated at an intensive care unit in amsterdam in 1994. their resistance was associated with a conjugative 170-kb plasmid which encoded a novel shv beta-lactamase designated shv-13. the shv-13 enzyme had two substitutions compared with shv-1: leu35gln and gly238ala. it hydrolyzed cefotaxime much more rapidly than ceftazidime or aztreonam.200010722518
european dissemination of a single oxa-48-producing klebsiella pneumoniae clone.a klebsiella pneumoniae isolate with decreased susceptibility to carbapenems was isolated in april 2011 in a hospital in amsterdam (the netherlands) and later found to be the source of an important outbreak in a rotterdam hospital. the strain, belonging to sequence type (st) 395, carried the bla(oxa-48) gene located onto a c 62-kb conjugative plasmid, together with the extended-spectrum β-lactamase gene bla(ctx-m-15) . it was closely related or identical to other oxa-48-positive klebsiella pneum ...201121973185
types of bacteria found in the canals of amsterdam.the bacteriological quality of the canal system in amsterdam was assessed by determination of the quantity and quality of the water. eight samples of water from different canals were studied. no gram-positive bacteria were found. the number of gram-negative bacteria varied from 720-1,820 (average 1,250) organisms per ml of water. the predominant bacteria were: pseudomonas sp., klebsiella pneumoniae and escherichia coli. these data illustrate the high number of potential pathogens in the water ca ...19938441356
