Thawing of permafrost may disturb historic cattle burial grounds in East Siberia.Climate warming in the Arctic may increase the risk of zoonoses due to expansion of vector habitats, improved chances of vector survival during winter, and permafrost degradation. Monitoring of soil temperatures at Siberian cryology control stations since 1970 showed correlations between air temperatures and the depth of permafrost layer that thawed during summer season. Between 1900s and 1980s, the temperature of surface layer of permafrost increased by 2-4°C; and a further increase of 3°C is e ...201122114567
estimation of relatedness among non-pedigreed yakutian cryo-bank bulls using molecular data: implications for conservation and breed management.yakutian cattle, the last remaining native cattle breed in siberia, are well adapted to the extreme sub-arctic conditions. nowadays only ca. 1200 purebred animals are left in yakutia. the semen of six yakutian bulls was stored in a cryo-bank without any pedigree documentation because of the traditional free herding style of the population.201020626845
[polymorphism of the bola-drb3 gene in the mongolian, kalmyk, and yakut cattle breeds].polymorphism of the bola-drb3 gene was studied with the use of the pcr-rflp technique in three cattle breeds (mongolian, kalmyk, and yakut) representing the bos taurus turano-mongolicus group. 35 bola-drb3.2 alleles were detected in the mongolian breed and 34 alleles in the kalmyk breed. the frequencies of alleles in both populations are distributed rather evenly: the frequencies of the most widely represented alleles (*18, *20, and *28) in the mongolian cattle varied from 7.75 to 8.45%. the mos ...201020536023
human evolution in siberia: from frozen bodies to ancient dna.the yakuts contrast strikingly with other populations from siberia due to their cattle- and horse-breeding economy as well as their turkic language. on the basis of ethnological and linguistic criteria as well as population genetic studies, it has been assumed that they originated from south siberian populations. however, many questions regarding the origins of this intriguing population still need to be clarified (e.g. the precise origin of paternal lineages and the admixture rate with indigeno ...201020100333
investigating the effects of prehistoric migrations in siberia: genetic variation and the origins of yakuts.the yakuts (also known as sakha), turkic-speaking cattle- and horse-breeders, inhabit a vast territory in central and northeastern siberia. on the basis of the archaeological, ethnographic and linguistic evidence, they are assumed to have migrated north from their original area of settlement in the vicinity of lake baykal in south siberia under the pressure of the mongol expansion during the thirteenth to fifteenth century ad: . during their initial migration and subsequent expansion, the ancest ...200616845541
[zoonotic infections in the central and southern ulusy of the republic of sakha].the serological survey of humans, as well as agricultural animals and rodents, for the presence of zoonotic infections, was carried out. local inhabitants were shown to have contacts with the causative agents of pseudotuberculosis, enteric yersiniosis, tularemia, leptospirosis, q fever, tick-borne rickettsiosis, chlamydiosis, toxoplasmosis. the immune stratum with respect to enteric yersiniosis was found to have a greater index, while the immune strata with respect to chlamydiosis, q fever, pseu ...19979245139
[the epidemiological and epizootiological characteristics of leptospirosis in the republic of sakha (yakutia)].among zoonotic infections with natural foci in the republic of sakha (yakutia), leptospiroses have assumed greater importance. their morbidity is sporadic, mainly afflicting rural adults. the serogroups pomona, grippotyphosa, and icterohaemorrhagiae are prevalent in the etiological structure of leptospiras. an epizootiological survey has revealed natural and anthropurgic leptospirosis foci which present a hazard primarily to rural inhabitants who deal with animal husbandry, fur-bearer breeding, ...19968700015
[genetic characteristics of the yakut aboriginal cattle and its hybrids].materials are presented concerning the analysis of blood groups in the yakutsk aboriginal cattle (n = 960) and its hybrids (n = 145) bred in verkhoyansk and yakutsk regions of yakutskaya assr with respect to the problems of its origin. the genetic similarity of the yakutsk cattle and its hybrids was evaluated; the cattle populations were studied in various years. the experiment also involved some hybrids bred in the northern part of the soviet union. the strongest similarity was found for the ya ...19902354786
