echinococcus granulosus in farm dogs and dingoes in south eastern queensland.twenty-nine farms with a prevalence of greater than 20% of hydatidosis in cattle were visited in south eastern queensland between august and december 1982. all farms carried beef cattle but none sheep. twenty-four had dingoes and wallabies but only 8 had feral pigs. on 17 farms either macropods were killed for dog food or dogs were suspected of hunting macropods or scavenging their carcases. purge samples were collected from 45 dogs from 23 of the 29 farms visited. the australian sylvatic strain ...19854084146
parasites and associated pathology of the swamp wallaby, wallabia bicolor (marsupialia).thirty-five swamp wallabies from victoria, new south wales and queensland, australia were examined for parasites. thirty-nine species of nematodes, five species of cestodes and eight species of arthropods were found. wallabies from queensland and northern new south wales had a less diverse helminth fauna (23 species) than did wallabies from southern new south wales and victoria (32 species). rugopharynx spp. and cloacina spp. occurred in large numbers in the stomach but provoked no pathological ...19854078972
a reconsideration of the echinococcus granulosus strain situation in australia following rflp analysis of cystic material.restriction fragment length polymorphism (rflp) analysis, previously shown to be a relatively simple and reproducible method for distinguishing discrete strains of e. granulosus, could not discriminate between e. granulosus originating from central queensland macropod marsupials, australian mainland sheep or united kingdom sheep. furthermore, sheep cyst material from tasmania and the australian mainland was indistinguishable using this approach. as a result of this dna analysis, the existence of ...19911680829
a genetic comparison of human and wildlife isolates of echinococcus granulosus in queensland: public health implications.to test the hypothesis that the hydatid parasite infecting macropods and dingoes in queensland is a sylvatic strain of echinococcus granulosus, distinct from the domestic strain which produces cysts in sheep and humans.19921346467
echinococcus granulosus in northern queensland. 1. prevalence in cattle.to determine the prevalence and geographical distribution of hydatidosis and investigate factors that might be expected to influence the prevalence of hydatids in cattle in queensland north of the tropic of capricorn. to determine the effect of natural levels of infection on carcase weight and subsequent economic loss.200616958624
echinococcus granulosus in northern queensland. 2. ecological determinants of infection in beef cattle.to provide information on possible ecological determinants of infection with echinococcus granulosus in a beef pastoral area of northern queensland.200616958625
the prevalence, organ distribution and fertility of cystic echinoccosis in feral pigs in tropical north queensland, australia.an investigation was carried out to study the prevalence of echinococcus granulosus hydatidosis in feral pigs (sus domesticus) in the charters towers region of tropical north queensland. data were collected from a total of 238 carcasses, which were hunted and shot in the burdekin river catchment area. organs of the abdominal, thoracic, and pelvic cavities were examined for the presence of hydatid cysts. in the laboratory, cysts and hydatid cyst fluids were examined under a stereoscopic binocular ...200717708154
clustering of hydatid infection in macropodids.the introduced parasite, echinococcus granulosus, has been reported in numerous macropodid species in various areas of australia, but no extensive studies investigating the prevalence and risk factors for infection in wild macropodids have been reported. in this study, 2998 macropodid carcasses were examined following commercial culling on 21 properties in southern queensland. of the 71 infected animals, all had cysts in the lung tissue, while two also had cysts in the pleural cavity and one ani ...200717362963
encroachment of echinococcus granulosus into urban areas in eastern queensland, australia.to investigate the prevalence of echinococcus granulosus in wild dogs (dingos and dingo-domestic dog hybrids) living in and around human habitation on fraser island and in townships of the maroochy shire, on queensland's sunshine coast, australia.200818673469
